A Transformation

I was elated when on a recent Value Village trip I happened upon this bad boy:

It doesn’t look like much, but I immediately saw the potential it held, and for $6.99…. ‘nuf said!

A vision formed in my mind, and I dedicated an afternoon to transforming this piece. We have TONS of various white paint, leftover from trim and my previous pieces, so I hauled a can out of the garage, along with some sandpaper. I sanded it down, trying with all my might to remove the photo on the top. I gave it two coats of semi-gloss white paint….

…but was noticing that the picture was still showing through, and the paint was bubbling over the leftover mod podge that didn’t come off with my vigorous sand job. I gave it a couple more paints to smooth everything out. I decided to see what it would look like with a scrap piece of fabrc laid over top….

Not bad! I liked the look, so I ironed the fabric and decided how I should attach it. Mod Podge game to mind, but I didn’t want it to bubble so I decided that I would leave it unattached for now. That way if I change my mind, I can always swap out a different piece of fabric. Kind of like a doily!

The last step was to change out the hardware. Of course I opted for a crystal knob…. because there is only one knob I could “splurge” on the crystal one from Home Depot for $6.49. 🙂 Can you believe it cost almost as much as the table itself?! Ha.

And here you have it, the final product:

I’m quite happy with how it turned out, and for under $15… what a steal!
